About Sick-Child and Convalescent Childcare

Baby-J has supporters who are able to care for children who are ill or recovering from illness.
In addition, some supporters can care for children before a medical visit; however, for safe childcare, as a general rule, please submit requests after the visit, once a diagnosis has been confirmed.

Method for requesting care for sick/post-illness children
Please search for supporters who support sick-child care in the search conditions and place your request. (You cannot place requests with supporters whose setting indicates “Not available for consultation” regarding sick/post-illness care.)

Scope of symptoms that can be supported for sick/post-illness children
The scope varies by supporter and is divided into the following four categories.

・Mild (Fever: 37.5°C or higher; Gastrointestinal symptoms: diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain; Respiratory symptoms: cough, runny nose)
※ If a school/nursery attendance permit is granted for respiratory symptoms, such cases are, in principle, treated as regular supporter services.
・Non-infectious (e.g., asthma, rashes not caused by infection)
・Infectious diseases (e.g., influenza, chickenpox, mumps and other viral colds, impetigo, epidemic keratoconjunctivitis)
・Pre-clinic (before visiting a medical institution)

Even if respiratory symptoms allow school/nursery attendance, some supporters may decline from the standpoint of infection risk to other children and safety. Thank you for your understanding.

Please note that we cannot handle the following infectious diseases:
Bacillary dysentery, cholera, measles, pertussis (whooping cough), meningococcal meningitis, tuberculosis, enterohemorrhagic E. coli infection (O-157), Ebola virus disease, avian influenza (H5N1), severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), diphtheria, Marburg virus disease, Lassa fever, plague, South American hemorrhagic fevers, smallpox, Crimean–Congo hemorrhagic fever, typhoid fever, paratyphoid fever

Regarding COVID-19
From May 8, 2023, COVID-19 in Japan transitioned from a Category II–equivalent to a Category V infectious disease; however, for the time being, Baby-J will handle usage for sick/post-illness care as follows.

If your child or a cohabiting family member falls under any of the following, sick/post-illness care cannot be used:
1.Diagnosed with COVID-19
2.Suspected COVID-19 (e.g., unexplained fever, awaiting test results)
3.Other situations where infection with COVID-19 cannot be ruled out

Please note
・To prevent secondary infection and spread, supporters cannot handle the cleaning/disposal of clothing or furniture contaminated by vomit. If vomiting occurs, the supporter will gather items into the designated bag/place; disinfection and disposal thereafter are the guardian’s responsibility.

How to confirm the scope of support
The range of symptoms a supporter can handle is displayed in the PR comments of the “Supporter Profile.”

Post-illness children
If symptoms are improving but the child has not fully recovered, the case is treated as post-illness care. Because medical judgment can be difficult in many cases, please understand that, for safety management reasons, a supporter may handle the case as sick-child care at their discretion.

Examples:
・Low-grade fever (below 37.5°C)
・No fever, but mild residual symptoms (e.g., cough, runny nose)
・Convalescent period until full recovery (period during which school/nursery attendance is prohibited)

Rules when placing a request
(1) Please request only supporters who can handle sick/post-illness care.
(2) At the quotation stage, please describe symptoms and specific requested support in detail via comments or chat.
(3) If your child’s symptoms change before support begins, please be sure to share the updates with the supporter.
